HOLY WEEK 2024

We all know the story of Holy Week—last supper, trial, death, and resurrection. We even know what hymn will be sung:

Christ the Lord is Risen Today.

Even so, resurrection is puzzling.

I grew up with puzzles. Tangrams, an ancient Chinese puzzle, contain seven shapes to create a square and multiple other designs. Only seven pieces. How hard can that be?

HARD!

Every year, we puzzle out the resurrection story. What does it mean to sit with Jesus and share bread and wine? Or to fall asleep in the garden? Or stand at the cross? Or run in fear from the empty tomb? How are our lives transformed by the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus?

This year, thanks to the folks at Illustrated Ministry, we offer you the challenge of telling the story of Holy Week with Tangrams (seven ancient geometrical shapes). For those of you who are puzzle fans, I hope you’ll try puzzling out the story of Easter with Tangrams. If not, simply come to worship, ready to experience the Christian story in a new way.

PS. Durable copies of the tangram puzzle as well as the puzzles and readings are available. Email us at mail@broadbaychurch.org or pick yours up at the church.

Maine Preservation Honor Award

In March 2022, Broad Bay Church was thrilled to receive a Maine Preservation Honor Award. This award is given annually to select projects throughout the state of Maine that celebrate excellence in historic preservation leadership, rehabilitation, and craft.

Since 1998, Maine Preservation has recognized historic preservation successes across Maine and the people that make them happen. The Awards program shines a light on how adaptively using and updating vacant and underutilized historic structures is an essential ingredient for community revitalization and vigor.

Thanks to Barba + Wheelock, HE Callahan, and Preservation Timberframe for the excellent work.

Sunday Worship

Worship is at the heart of our life together.  We come together to share joys and concerns, to sing, and to listen to the ancient texts of our faith. While most services are led by Rev. Nancy Duncan, many others participate in leading worship and sharing the stories of our lives and faith. Jesus’s command to love one another is reflected in our efforts to reach out to folks outside of our faith community, including folks of other faiths or no faith. Everyone is welcome!

Broad Bay will continue to offer hybrid worship and you may continue to join us via Skype from any place where there is phone or video access.

Please contact us for information on how you can join us.

We worship at 10 am on Sunday Mornings
